With the opening of the Olympics one day away, RCMP quickly reacted on Thursday to a report of a suspicious object found in mid-afternoon near Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver.
The Mounties immediately closed down the SeaBus, trains and bus service, evacuated the area and brought in a robotic device to take the object to an enclosed area for a controlled detonation. A sniffer dog was brought in to check for any evidence of explosives.
RCMP officer Mike McLaughlin told CTV moments after the controlled explosion that the object appeared to be a fairly common household item packaged in a way that looked a little suspicious.
