More Islamist extremists are active in the UK than previously thought, a secret intelligence report seen by the Sunday Telegraph has suggested.
There are “some thousands” of militants in Britain, with extremist cells concentrated in London, Birmingham and Luton, the quoted report says.
The document also states the UK will remain “a high-priority target” for al-Qaeda for the foreseeable future.
The Home Office said resources had been invested to tackle the complex threat.
The paper says the document – marked “restricted” – was drawn up by the intelligence branch of the Ministry of Defence, MI5 and Special Branch.
Although the report states judging the number of militants is “difficult”, it cites estimates from the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) which claim there are “some thousands of extremists in the UK committed to supporting jihadi activities, either in the UK or abroad”.
The document continues: “For the foreseeable future the UK will continue to be a high-priority target for international terrorists aligned with al-Qaeda.
“It will face a threat from British nationals, including Muslim converts, and UK-based foreign terrorists, as well as terrorists planning attacks from abroad.”

I think is far past time for Britian do do some house cleaning……find the questionable figures and do what is necessary to make for a safer environment.
The expression wake up and smell the coffee comes to mind.
History has taught us religious wars, and please make no mistake we can be politically correct, but nevertheless this is a religious war, have always been the most bloody and fierce.
The establishment needs to rethink the manner we are fighting this war domestically, this is not the IRA or any other band of thugs, this is fanatical group that believes its true mission is not achieved unless they die in the pursuit of their goals and taking as many infidels along with them as possible at the same time.
We are not going to reason with these people, the British Government must consider draconian measures against the radical terrorist elements, and more importantly be prepared to stay the course, that means the when the well oiled PR machine of the radicals kick in claiming racism, abuse of minorities etc. they are focused on the mission we have that is ” to provide a safe and fair environment for all citizens, regardless of religion, color or creed”.
The UK is a historical safe haven for people in times on need, most of the terrorists in the UK today are 2nd and 3rd generation migrants who’s very families came to the UK to live in peace and be productive citizens in a green field setting. Nobody is predisposed to be a terrorist, a terrorist is made and it well past the time when the British Government needs to step up to the plate and take the offensive to unmake the terrorist by force, to a level that has never been experienced before. A price must be exacted when a terrorist act is committed, the terrorist and his kin must be held fully accountable for their actions, no pity, no compassion!
I am not politically correct, and I am not about to resign my country to terrorists, we need leadership now that is true to its word, true to itself and true to their people.
Why would this seem to be a surprise? The increase in Islamic occupation has been occurring under the nose of the government and under the liberal justification of the left. There is a significant problem and the UK and it is only the tip of the iceberg. The US is not far behind.
It is about time that the US stands up and takes notice. People are sinking in their own tolerance and completely undaunted by the structure that is forming around them.
We need leadership that is aggressive and ready to take on the challenge.
