UPDATE: The plane has landed safely.
American Airlines flight 1586, carrying 135 people is returning to Los Angeles International Airport ‘LAX’ after apparently blowing a tire on its left main landing gear during takeoff for Toronto.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the Boeing 737 took off from the airport around 11 a.m. Tuesday. The pilot reported the problem immediately and asked to return to the airport.
The jet is circling around the airport to burn fuel. Emergency vehicles are preparing for an emergency landing.
American Airlines spokesman John Hotard says 130 passengers and five crew members are aboard Flight 1586.
