Gas Mask Bra Wins Public Health Prize

Introducing, the gas mask bra. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something like this comes along. A brassiere that converts quickly into a gas mask.

The IgNobel Public Health prize went to Elena Bodnar of Hinsdale, Illinois and colleagues who designed and patented a bra that can be quickly converted into a pair of gas masks, one for the brassiere wearer and one to be given to some needy bystander.

  • That’s ridiculous…how do people get research funding for crazy projects like this. Public Health Award? Really? What about the people who do real research and invent real lifesaving technologies…

  • Lighten up and read the source article. It was a contest for the fun of it. The prizes are given out by the Harvard-based humour magazine Annals of Improbable Research and co-sponsored by the Harvard-Radcliffe Science Fiction Association, the Harvard-Radcliffe Society of Physics Students and the Harvard Computer Society. Besides, brainstorming activities these types of contests promote, may lead to more practical discoveries.
