Karachi – Suspicious Envelopes Containing White Powder Delivered To US Embassy

The US embassy in the federal capital and its consulate in Karachi have received suspicious envelopes containing an unidentified white color substance, sparking a security alert, according to embassy and other security officials on Sunday.

The officials told The Post that the embassy received a packet by mail containing an unidentified substance. Embassy spokesman Lou Fintor confirmed that the embassy had received a mysterious envelop as well.

The US Consulate in Karachi had received a similar packet on Tuesday, he said, adding the US Embassy had received the envelop containing unidentified white powder on Friday. The US embassy in Pakistan has no facility of laboratory examination of the unidentified substance, he said.

He, however, said tests were being conducted on the envelopes. “We are currently testing these substances in the envelopes. The embassy and the consulate are open and operating normally,” he said. Fintor would not specify what kind of substance it was and from where it was mailed.

“There are no reports of any illnesses among the very small group of people that dealt with the incidents,” the spokesman said. “They followed established protocol for handling suspicious articles. We take these threats seriously,” he said.
