Libyan Al Qaeda suspect brought to US soil

A suspected Libyan terrorist who was being held aboard a U.S. warship after being nabbed in Libya is now in New York and expected to appear in court Tuesday, officials said.

The Al Qaeda suspect, known as Abu Anas al-Libi, has been under federal indictment in New York for more than a decade.

U.S. special operations forces snatched him in Libya Oct. 5. He’s expected to stand trial over whether he helped plan and conduct surveillance for the bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998.

He was held on the USS San Antonio, a Marine amphibious ship, for 11 days before being brought to the U.S..
