Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi called on Thursday for a “jihad” or armed struggle against Switzerland, saying it was an infidel state that was destroying mosques.

“Any Muslim in any part of the world who works with Switzerland is an apostate, is against (the Prophet) Mohammad, God and the Koran,” Gaddafi said during a meeting in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi to mark the Prophet's birthday.

“The masses of Muslims must go to all airports in the Islamic world and prevent any Swiss plane landing, to all harbors and prevent any Swiss ships docking, inspect all shops and markets to stop any Swiss goods being sold,” Gaddafi said.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry said it had no comment on Gaddafi's remarks.

  • Anybody who sincerely believed the relic from the past Gaddafi has changed his ways was delusional, a leopard never changes its spots!, regrettably the so called experts of the day would have us believe a man capable of developing a germ warfare program and sponsor of international terrorism woke up one morning and said enough is enough I want to be a model of the international community, I think not.

Leadership in the West must (for once) rise above the occasion and trade considerations with their associated backroom deals and punish irresponsible leaders who are quite clearly unbalanced, reciprocal measures should be the order of the day.

  • First let’s define jihad; it means holy war. Gaddafi is trying to legitimize his call to terrorism against Switzerland by appealing to his fellow Muslim’s twisted definition of holy. And why is he doing this? Because his son was arrested in Switzerland for abusive behavior. So, in reality, this is a call to the Muslim world to avenge his family’s honor. History is certainly full of wars initiated for such offenses as someone’s honor being skewed, whether real or perceived . But in this day and age I would hope noone takes this mad man seriously, especially since he and his family have no honor to begin with.

  • What happened, they close his bank account? Being mad about not allowing more mosques to be built is just crazy. The Swiss have the right to say NO in their own country.
