Cartels’ turf fights escalate and threaten to spread into U.S.

Add another pressing challenge to President-elect Barack Obama’s growing to-do list – tamping down a dramatic rise in violence and corruption that has overwhelmed the U.S.-Mexico border and spread an escalating turf fight between warring drug cartels into the United States.

  • I’m not real smart, but I can see how stopping this whole drug war waste would just about fix all our problems. Look at the statics from anyone, there is nobody denying the war is more bad than good.I guess all the prisons would make wallmart stores and they wouldn’t be ripping off all the tax breaks and leaving us with those big buildings.

  • This was bound to happen with not closing our borders and letting the invasion from the southern border run amuck. Why is it they wait until things get worse before they feel something needs to be done about it?

It states in our Constitution that our government is to protect us from an invasion that is harmful to the people (paraphasing). THEY AREN’T DOING THEIR JOB ARE THEY!!!

  • If they had built the fence and secured our borders as we demanded and were promised in 2006 and 2007, they would be way ahead of the game in stopping the violence from overflowing into the US.

I agree this artificial and useless war on drugs is a huge part of the problem, but even if drugs were legalized in the US many of these cartels would still be trying to smuggle the drugs into the US to avoid the massive taxes you know our government would heap on them.

Now the president of Mexico has asked President Obama to re-instate the Clinton ban on assault weapons (their definition of assault weapons is very broad) because some of these guns are getting into Mexico. All guns are illegal in Mexico. That is not stopping the cartels and a ban on gun ownership by US citizens won’t stop them either. If Mexican citizens had the right to own guns and could defend themselves against the cartels, then you would see a reduction in the violence. But alas, the Mexican government is not going to allow that because then the citizens could also defend themselves from an oppressive government.

Am I the only one who has noticed an increase in the gun violence around the border since the implementation of the Mexican Truck Cross Border Program that allows Mexican trucks to bring goods into all points in the US and truck goods into Mexico from all points in the US and Canada? Freight used to be transferred at the border from US trucks to Mexican trucks and from Mexican trucks to US trucks. It was much harder to get illegal goods back and forth across the border then.

  • At this point, it would be condusive to take some of our enlisted men in the services to secure our borders, compared to our overseas assisted to other lands. If I was in charge, I would place a warning to all on the borders, with an allotted amount of time to leave and then begin bringing in a large amount of air support, with the use of explosives, etc and resolve the problem!

  • What should we as citizens do ?

    What should I do ?

    I m in Arizona and carry a 9mm.

I hear the same talk everywhere. Yet, our government doesnt do much to stop the illegal crossings.

Twice before in history the USA “kicked out” illegals.

During the depression and again after WWll. This must happen again and I think we will see that happen.

Problem is like cockroach infestation. Once they are in your home it really hard to get rid of them.

Not just Mexicans but any illegals.
