Sen. Chuck Schumer is protesting an Obama Administration plan to eliminate an anti-terrorist Coast Guard unit that keeps watch over the city’s harbor.
“They are our eyes and ears,” Schumer said of the elite, 90-member Coast Guard unit established after 9/11. The unit provides terror-related surveillance and security for waterfront events like the Fourth of July fireworks.
Obama’s federal budget, released last week, calls for transferring the unit to Boston, where it would be combined with Beantown’s Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team.
“If there was ever a plan that was penny wise and pound foolish, this is it,” Schumer said.
He sent Napolitano a letter asking her to abandon the plan – and vowed to block it in Congress if she does not.
“The whole New York delegation will rally against this,” he said.

I never thought I would be agreeing with a politician, but in this rare occurrence, I do!
It is understood there are fiscal constrains, but the security of the nation is non negotiable, this is a slippery slope one we get on that mindset.
Ok, here is proof that we all have been waiting for,
we cant spend the money required to protect our own nation, but we can spend money on the security of other countries fighting their battles for them. We give many countries aid that we dont have and our nation suffers for it. Take the money we give these countries, use it for the good ole USA protection fund and feed our homeless while we are at it……..
Once again this President is revealing his weakness when it comes to protecting this nation. New York is the number one target for obvious reasons. I am not at all surprized by his decision considering his administration wants to put KSM on trial in NYC. The Coast Guard is vital to harbor security and to transfer them sends a message to the terrorists-Welcome To New York. I rarey agree with Sen. Schumer on political issues but when it comes to the security of NY I believe he will do whatever possible to keep NYC safe.
Maybe this is in retaliation for not wanting the terrorist’s trils in New York?
See if you don’t go along with the Obama administration, you are left out in the cold.

Wait a minute Senator, your missing the point here, Mr Obama’s idea, is to lull the terrorists into a sense of security, enabling him to enter the US, rape, murder and pillage, and generally do their thing, and as they escape, Mrs Clinton and the CIA , in a mini sub, are going to follow them back to where the came from, and then, my God, I cannot begin to explain what she is going to do, well, read them their rights first, and offer the free legal assistance.
