Terrorists look to unprotected parts of airports – Report

Security experts and former anti-terrorist government officials say the suicide bombing at a  Moscow airport yesterday exposes the vulnerable underbelly of airports in this country and around the world, this according to a report in today’s USA Today.

The article points out that terrorists have long sought to disrupt aviation through hijackings and bombings and since many of those recent attempts have failed at least partly because of heightened security, experts say, it makes sense that terrorists would launch attacks on the unprotected zones of an airport: baggage claim areas, ticket counters, security check-in lines and curbside areas where passengers are picked up and dropped off.

  • This has been a concern at terror prone airports over seas, and measures have been in place at these airports without incident. Though Americans would not welcome the inconvenience.
