A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck off the western coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The earthquake struck off the coast of Sumatra at 5:12 a.m. local time. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a local tsunami watch.

The USGS listed the epicenter as being 145 miles west of Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia.

The depth of the earthquake was listed as 28.6 miles.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
