The number 11 can is seen on the back side of the sweatshirt, and is designed to appear like the World Trade Center Towers. The school’s mascot, a thunderbird, can be seen moving toward the 11. • just too close to the 911 thing, there are so many “test” by terriorist going on right now that this is like a slap in our face… think school did the right thing.

  • I agree…the message seemed positive. Could be viewed as maybe being in bad taste, but nothing worse than some of the stuff I wore to high school without anyone blinking an eye.

  • Sweatshirts are not the problem! The confiscating of the shirts was a good thing, but not the problem. The problem is the kids lack of understanding American values and sensitivities to 911. If the kids had addressed their idea with an American teacher or other adult, they probably would have bee advised against their choice of pictures abd caption.
Obviously English is a 2nd language (or maybe 3rd?) for the kids.
What would have happ3ened if the shirts were not confiscated? Very likely some of the local kids would have got upset and taken matters into their own hands. I’ll not elaborate!!!

  • I like how people just assume that since they are Arab-American English is their second or third language – it has nothing to do with their ethnicity. Many highschool students or younger don’t understand why they should be sensative to things like this or why patriatism is so important. That is a value that many learn later in life.

These kids very well could have been born here. You should get all of the facts before jumping to such conclusions.

I highly doubt anyone from their class would have “taken matters into their own hands” these were kids they know… not terrorists. It was just a bad judgement call on their part. They are just kids.
