No matter how well a terrorist covers their tracks, or how cool they are under pressure, the Pentagon wants to be able to detect, track, and even positively identify them from a distance. And they want to do it using nothing more than the heat and sweat that emanate from a person’s pores.
The military’s been after scent-based detection systems for years now. In 2007, Pentagon research agency Darpa solicited proposals for sensors to sniff out terrorists using unique genetic markers found in human emanations. The idea was based on research showing that mice each carried a unique “odortype” that was consistent despite variables like stress, hydration or diet. And odortypes are so powerful, they stick around for around a month after their host body has fled the premises.
But the most state-of-the-art tech, known as E-Nose, has only succeeded in distinguishing between two different people, and relies on “detecting human odor from the armpit region.” Now, the Army is launching Identification Based on Individual Scent (IBIS), and wants proposals for a more sophisticated detection system, that could “uniquely identify an individual based on scent,” at a geographical distance or after several hours or even days.

You know where this is going you just need a sample of clothing that the terrorist has been wearing and the electronic search dog can then track the person. Even sitting still in one hideout wont guarantee they wont find you as the wind does blow. All you then need is to email the electronic profile to all the hummers in a given search area that have the sensors on them then the collective nose is greater than any single unit with a good bit of software you cat determine the direction that the sent is bowing from. I guess Bob Dylan had it right all along “The answer my friend is blow-in in the wind!”
This is so ridiculous it makes me want to find out what the “odor” is so I can reproduce it, wear it, and see what happens.
Terrorism comes from a lot of places mind and body. Hormones switch at the drop of a hat and the change of a diet or health issue.

SINCE OUR TERRORIST ENEMIES ARE PRETTY MUCH LOW LIFE SCUM, THE BODY ODOR IDENTIFIER IS A GREAT IDEA. I REALIZE THAT PROFILING THESE IDIOTS IS NOT PROPER BUT WHAT THESE MISGUIDED FOOLS DO TO INNOCENT PEOPLE IS NOT PROPER EITHER. Killing in the name of religion contradicts the basic premise on one’s faith.
Almost could have hired me to do this; my nose is so sensitive that I hate to get into elevators because they contain so much olfactory information. My adult children say it was tough growing up with a mom who could smell everything. I have no doubt in this possibility, and it is NOT masked by other odors, human scent also emanates from the expired air in the lungs. There could be many applications to this science. Great idea.
