Mall shooting emphasizes security as holiday season approaches

Law enforcement officials in Hobart, Indiana are investigating a shooting that occurred inside of the Westfield Southlake Shopping Mall on Saturday night. Mall security and off-duty Hobart police officers reportedly arrested three teen suspects, and have identified a fourth suspect who remains at large.

Hobart Police Chief, Jeff White said the shooting occurred near the merry-go-round, where parents and children were present. “Obviously they have no clue what could’ve happened in a mall this busy and crowded.”

As “Black Friday” approaches, ushering in the official 2012 holiday shopping season, several recent mass shootings have illustrated the need for increased security and public safety awareness.
