  • This is a joke right? Oh my, a pocket knife! oh my gosh, a unlicensed gun! You idiots, rural people bring guns and pocket knives wherever they go. That is what they have always done. I have plenty of family that live in the country and they all have guns and knives. They are the nicest people you will ever meet. This is how they do it in ALL small towns, that is why crime and violence are almost non-existent. This is just another example of how the media blows things out of proportion!

  • The Second Article of Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads thusly:
” A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to carry arms shall not be infringed.”
    .
The 14th Article of Amendment was enacted in part to prevent the states from depriving the now freed slaves from being unlawfully and illegally disarmed.
    .
Additionally, in NO PLACE of the U.S. Constitution is there =ANY= enumerated power which allows the United States to regulate the exercise of individual rights.
    .
Further, since the 14th Article of Amendment made ALL citizens FEDERAL citizens, then the Bill of Rights applies EVERYWHERE the U.S. Government has legal authority, REGARDLESS what the state constitutions might say otherwise.
    .
Finally, because of the 14th Article of Amendment AND the U.S. Constitution’s Art. VI, paragraph (2) —the supremacy clause— then no state OR the federal government has ANY legal or lawful authority to disarm ANY citizen whom has not committed a crime of violence.

  • Come on people!! You cannot bring a loaded weapon to ANY event where the President of the U.S will be. He needs to go to jail for being stupid and thinking he would get away with this.

  • Tell me, are you gun toters part of “a well regulated militia,” or just individuals carrying their guns around to make themselves feel important and, they hope, impress others. It’s the comma in that sentence that makes you think you can ignore what comes before “the rights” etc. Well, you can’t ignore it. A militia means a militia, and you aren’t in one. Bite on it, because there’s the fact (what the amendment really says) and what you want it to say (I can take my gun anywhere).

Why take a gun anywhere if you don’t plan to use it? If you do plan to use it, your ass ought to be in jail. If you don’t plan to use it, you’re just little show-offs who wave the Constitution to justify your childish behavior.

  • @ chris: The reason why there isn’t a lot of violence and crime in small rural towns has very little, if nothing, to do with the fact that everyone carries guns (supposedly…. I mean I live in a small town and most people do NOT carry guns around with them). The reason has more to do with the fact that everybody knows each other in small towns. These close relationships between means that it takes a lot more balls to rob someone because eventually someone will find out. Also, from a sociological perspective, people tend to be less inclined to violence and crime when they maintain close bonds with the people in their community, because they feel like they belong and do not want to threaten anyone else who belongs to that community. High gun ownership rates do not lead to less crime (there are also high gun ownership rates in some crime-ridden urban neighborhoods remember?). They are sometimes correlated, but remember that correlation is NOT causation, and is it very rare that is a single cause for anything.

Someone bringing a gun to a Presidential event is NOT practicing your freedoms. It’s a blatant threat on the president’s life, and last time I checked, that’s treason. I bet if this guy was of Middle-Eastern origin you would be ranting about how he’s a terrorist instead of supporting his actions. I could care less if you keep a gun in your house, but don’t carry the thing around just because you’re compensating for something.
