Man In Flight Grounding Incident Faces Loss of U.S. Residency

The man whose presence on the U.S. no-fly list forced a transatlantic flight to reroute to Montreal is to face proceedings to strip him of his U.S. residency status and send him back to his native Somalia, U.S. officials say.The decision to deal with Abdirahman Ali Gaal on immigration technicalities raises questions as to whether there was any substance to the terrorism fears that led to the rapid and drastic precautions taken in the case against him.

Relatives of the man describe him as a hapless, though politically outspoken, taxi cab driver, a father of five who had recently sojourned to West Africa to study Islam.Immigration law experts suggest that, despite the strange optics of his unusually quick removal, his transfer from Canada to the United States could have been done in compliance with all laws. The case against Mr. Gaal, currently at the Clinton County jail in upstate New York, is playing out with the rapidity of a daily soap opera.

  • This guy is “Fort Hood” all over again. A radical, in this country, and everybody is afraid to do anything about it, until it is to late. Then they will be afraid to “call a spade, a spade” or direct any blame!
Oh ya, Obama asked the world to wait until their investigation was done on the Ft. Hood incident? Now, they are refusing to release their findings!

  • If he was on the ‘no-fly’ list incorrectly, then his situation should be reviewed. His mere presence on a flight, if he had no prior knowledge of his inclusion on the list, does not constitute a crime. On the flip side, if his visits to Africa were to obtain any type of training related to any type of terrorism, then his residency status removal is completely in order. The story is incomplete. The story does not provide all the facts. W/o them, the decision to remove his residency status could be made to appear a knee-jerk attempt by a bureaucrat to cover themself for an error in judgment by having the plane redirected & refused entry to American airspace. Seems to me the man is on that list for other than just speaking out. Seems to me he is on that list for other activities that caused Homeland Security to consider his activities to be associated with or in sympathy with terrorists or terrorist sponsors.
