New Jersey Naval Base Under Lockdown in Lakehurst

UPDATE: Officials lifted a lockdown that lasted a little more than an hour at a Naval air base in Lakehurst Monday morning, after a FedEx truck driver entering the base was found with a handgun.

The lockdown went into effect about 9:15 a.m. on the 42,000-acre Naval Air Systems Command base (NAVAIR) at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst When the driver was asked if he had a weapon, he said he did, so he was turned away after having been given a citation, according to Lt. Carlyn Glover.

.Media Relations Coordinator Senior Airman David Carbajal said there were several incidents they he could not provide any more information about.Carbajal said no shots were fired on the center, which was where the airship Hindenberg exploded in 1937.

  • as a former armoured truck guard, now retired, i’ve met fedex drivers on the road frequently, and this is the first time i’ve heard of a fedex driver carrying a gun”for self defense” or any other reason, while on duty. as far as that goes even as armoured truck guards we were not allowed armed beyond the entrance doors to a post office working area when making a pick up. i suspect this guy will be looking for a new job about now.
