Risk of Small-scale Terror Attacks by al-Qaeda Rising

The Washington Post reports Al-Qaeda and its allies are more likely to attempt small-scale, less sophisticated terrorist attacks in the US, according to officials who say that it’s extremely difficult to detect such threats in advance.

“Unlike large-scale, coordinated, catastrophic attacks, executing smaller-scale attacks requires less planning and fewer pre-operational steps,” said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, testifying before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. “Accordingly, there are fewer opportunities to detect such an attack before it occurs.”

  • I would expect a shopping mall in one of the states that severly limits the right of a citizen to carry a gun. Also, the police lock down a mall, and the shoppers inside are the provervial “fish in a barrel”. In South Carolina, armed citizens would immediately start shooting back.
