One person is dead after he and another suspect led police on a chase onto Luke Air Force Base, police said. According to Captain Jerry Gonzalez, the suspects, while trying to ditch police, drove to Luke Air Force Base and went through one of the security gates.

A security forces officer reportedly confronted two men inside the car, previously reported stolen, said Officer Karen Gerardo, the public information officer at the Glendale Police Department.

When the officer got out of his car to try to make contact with the two men, the car drove directly at him. The officer shot at the car, which then crashed, said Gerardo.

Investigators do not suspect terrorism, said Gerardo. They don’t believe the men were anything other than car thieves, said Gonzales.

  • As a former USAF Security Policeman, I have a big shout-out to the Sky Cops! You don’t touch my planes, my base or anything else that I am there to protect. Period!

  • People need to cooperate with police and comply with officer demands. But, I do have a problem with officers that step in front of a vehicle and then shoot the driver, because the driver moves the car forward to get away?
An officer can only use lethal force, when his life is in danger. So, it seems the officer is creating the situation to use lethal force.
Sorry but, there just seems to be something wrong with this picture.
You cannot shoot a fleeing suspect, if he is unarmed.
    Just a thought.

  • Unarmed? A vehicle is considered a weapon if used in a threatening manner. And usually you don’t “flee” towards a road block. Fleeing implies going away from something not towards it. Also using deadly force is allowed if other peoples life’s are threatened not just your own. Because how are the police to know the guys weren’t terrorists…remember ft. hood? there’s no way to know if they have a bomb in the trunk or bad intentions towards members on base.
